PROMOTING GRANGE IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Poster Contest: Design a poster not to exceed size 22"x28" advertising/promoting the Grange. Hang it up in your community where it is visavle for the public to view. 

Tri-fold brochure: Create a tri-fold brochure to include the Mission of the Grange, objectives of your Grange to reach this mission, and intclude a local contact for potential members to reach for additional information. This brochure should describe what YOUR local Grange does for YOUR local community.

Newspaper Article: Submit an article for the Empire Granger and local Newspaper. Theme/subject: Civility. Civility is defined as "formal politeness and courtesy in behavior or speech" (Oxford Dictionary). Discuss what civility means to you. How has the Grange raught you civility? How has the Grange influenced your community? What can the Grange do for your community?

NEW YORK STATE GRANGE TALENT SHOW

AnyCommunity or Junior Grange member or group of Grange members is invited to perform in the State Grange Talent Show. Pomona Lecturers may hold a Pomona level Talent Show or contact Subordinate Lecturers to determine those interested in performing at the State Talent Show. Pomona Lecturers will complete a form provided by the State Lecturer listing those interested in performing in the State Grange Talent Show. This conference will be held the last Saturday in April at the State Headquarters. Pomona Lecturers will send the form to the State Lecturer by April 15 each year. The maximum limit for each act is 6 minutes. There is no minimum time limit. The format for any recorded music shoud be a cd or thumb drive.

Professionals are NOT eligible to participate. A Professiional is defined a someone who receives significant financial gain from performance or acting as an instructor in a particular category. 

Judging will be done by qualified individuals. All performers will receive a ribbon. The Community Grange Best of Show winner will receive $50.00 and will be invited to perform at the NYS Fair on Grange Day, State Grange Session,  and at the National Grange Talent Showcase during the National Grange Convention.

Talent Contest categories are as follows:  Instrumental (Solo & Group), Vocal (Solo & Group), Skit/Variety. The show will be held April 25, 2020 at State Grange Headquarters.

NEW YORK STATE GRANGE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

This contest is open to both Adult and Junior members, and is divided into three divisions:
Division I , Community (adult) members
Division II , Junior members Ages 5-9
Division III , Junior members Ages 10-14. 
NOTE: Junior's age as of Jan. 1, 2020 determines division.

Photos may be entered in the following catagories in all divisions:
1.Grange Action in the Community
2. Agriculture
3.Time Lapse - submit 4 - 4"x6" pictures of an action in defferent stages

The photograph must have been taken by the person submitting the entry. The photograph must have been taken sometime between May 1st.and April 15th. of the current contest year.  A photograph can only be entered once. Photographs should be no smaller than 4" x 6" and no larger than 11" x 14" including matting if used. (Except catagory 3, see above) Frames are not allowed but the photo must have a rigid backing. Participants may have one entry per category. Professionals are NOT eligible to participate.Film or digital photographs are allowed.  A Professional is someone who receives significant financial gain from the sale of his/her photographs or from acting as an instructor. The Best of Show winner MAY NOT enter the photography the following year. A Junior Best of Show winner may enter the following year IF he/she moved to the older age group. On the back of the photograph list the division, category, name, address, and Grange of the person submitting the entry.

Entries must be submitted to Ravena Grange by March 1, 2020. Winners on the local level will be forwarded to Pomona  for competition. Winners on the Pomona level will be forwarded to the State Grange for competition. Certificates, ribbons, and cash prizes will be awarded on all levels of competition. Judging criteria will include composition and arrangement, interest, presentation, and technique.


NEW YORK STATE GRANGE ART CONTEST

This contest is open to both Adult and Junior members, and is divided into three divisions:
Division I , Community (adult) members

Division III , Junior members Ages 10-14.
NOTE: Junior's age as of Jan. 1, 2020 determines division

Art may be entered in the following categories in all divisions:
1. "Watercolor set to music"  Paint a picture using watercolors on a piece of sheet music. Any entry must not be larger than 24"x36"x1".
2. Rock Painting - Size of rock not to axceed 6"x6"x4".
3. Art on Canvas using mixed media using the theme: Hope. An entry must not be larger than 24"x36"x1". 

Each entry must the the original work of the member submitting it. All entries must be completed May 1st. and April 15th. of the current contest year.  A work of art can only be entered once.  There is no minimum size requirement.  Do not mount the picture on a backing larger than necessary. Participants may have one entry per catagory. Do not send glass with entries. Professionals are not eligible to participate. A Professional is defined as someone who receives significant financial grain from the sale of his/her art work or from acting as an instructor. The Best of Show winner may NOT enter in the same category the following year.
