NEW YORK STATE GRANGE SYMBOL CRAFT PROJECT
The purpose of this project is to encourage members to iuse their creative abilities to exemplify the theme. The Theme for the years 2012-2013 is "Building Better Communities through Education, Enrichment and Enthusiasm". There is no specific symbol to be depicted. The symbol may represent one or more of the elements in the theme. The symbol may be made from any craft or art medimum and interpreted in any manner. Maximium size 24" x 24". The theme covers two years byt the same item may not be entered two years in a row. Any Community Grange member member may enter. The entry must be the work of the member submitting it. All entries must be judged on the Pomona level. Awards at the Pomona level are the responsibility of the Pomona Lecturer. The top three Pomona winners are due to the State Lecturer by the Saturday of State Session 2011. All entires will be on display at the State Grange Session. State awards will include ribbons and certificates.
PEN IN HAND - WRITING CONTEST
The focus of this creative writing project for 2011-12 and 2012-13 will be Grange. Interested members are encouraged to submit original essays, skits, poems, stc., that have a Grange focus. The goal is to compile a booklet of materials that can be used at Grange meetings or in telling the Grange story to others. Essays should not exceed 300 words. Other formats should be a reasonable length. Submissions should be sent to the State Lecturer by September 15th. of each year. These may be sent by e-mail or regular mail. Submisisons should be typed and include the author's name, address, Grange and number on the back. This is no judging. Booklets will be distributed at the State Grange Session.
NEW YORK STATE GRANGE TALENT SHOW
Any Grange member or group of Grange members is invited to perform in the State Grange Talent Show. Pomona Lecturers may hold a Pomona level Talent Show or contact Subordinate Lecturers to determine those interested in performing at the State Talent Show. Pomona Lecturers will complete a form provided by the State Lecturer listing those interested in performing in the State Grange Talent Show. Pomona Lecturers will send the form to the State Lecturer by April 15, 2012. The maximum limit for each act is 6 minutes. There is no minimum time limit. Judging will be done by qualified individuals. All performers will receive a ribbon. The Best of Show winner will receive $50.00. This winner will be invited to perform at the NYS Fair on Grange Day, State Grange Session, and at the National Grange Talent Showcase during the National Grange Convention. Talent Contest categories are as follows: (Solo and group in the following) Instrumental, Vocal, Skit/Variety. The show will be held April 28, 2012 at State Grange Headquarters. NEW YORK STATE GRANGE PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST
This contest is open to both Adult and Junior members, and is divided into three divisions: Division I , Community (adult) members Division II , Junior members Ages 5-9 Division III , Junior members Ages 10-14. NOTE: Junior's age as of Jan. 1, 2012 determines division.
Photos may be entered in the following catagories in all divisions: 1. People 2. Animals 3. Scenery/Nature
The photograph must have been taken by the person submitting the entry. The photograph must have been taken sometime between May 1st.and April 15th. of the following year. A photograph can only be entered once. Photographs should be no smaller than 4" x 6" and no larger than 11" x 14" including matting if used. Frames are not allowed but the photo must have a rigid backing. Participants may have one entry per category. Traditional printed photographs or digital photographs can be entered. On the back of the photograph list the division, category, name, address, and Grange of the person submitting the entry.
Entries must be submitted to Ravena Grange by March 5, 2012. Winners on the local level will be forwarded to Pomona for competition. Winners on the Pomona level will be forwarded to the State Grange for competition. Certificates, ribbons, and cash prizes will be awarded on all levels of competition. Judging criteria will include composition and arrangement, interest, presentation, and technique.
NEW YORK STATE GRANGE ART CONTEST

Art may be entered in the following categories in all divisions: 1. OILS AND ACRYLICS OR CRAYON/MARKERS 2. WATERCOLORS 3. CHARCOAL OR PENCIL DRAWING
Each entry must the the original work of the member submitting it. All entries must be completed May 1st. and April 15th. of the following year. A work of art can only be entered once. Entries must not be larger than 24" x 36". There is no minimum size requirement. Do not mount the picture on a backing larger than necessary. Participants may have one entry per catagory. Do not send glass with entries.
Entries must be submitted to Ravena Grange by March 5, 2012. Winners on the local level will be forwarded to Pomona for competition. Winners on the Pomona level will be forwarded to the State Grange for competition. Certificates, ribbons, and/or cash prizes will be awarded on all levels of competition. Judging criteria will include how well the artist used the medimum, craftmanship and skill, composition, presentaiton of subject, and originality.
