On December 12 an ice strom hit the greater Capital District downing trees and power lines, leaving thousands of homes and businesses without power and communication services. The Grange Hall was quickly supplied with emergency power and pressed into service. The American Red Cross established a disaster center at the hall, supplying cots, blankets, and personnel. The Town of Coeymans provided the generator, and manpower to assist with preparations, and cleanup afterwards. Ravena Rescue provided around the clock EMT coverage. The Coeymans Hollow Fire Company provided a number of needed items, and checked in frequently to see if anything else was needed. A dozen Grangers and friends put their own plans aside to prepare meals, run errands, entertain children, and do whatever else was necessary to meet the needs of those requiring assistance. Price Chopper Supermarkets graciously donated needed food supplies. After three days, the hall was closed as a disaster center as nearly all the power had been restored to the area.
